300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training

300 hours

The 300 hour yoga teacher training is an advanced program open to teachers who already hold an RYT 200. It doesn't stand alone as a Yoga Alliance credential — its purpose is to add to your existing 200 hours, taking your total to 500 and qualifying you to register as an RYT 500, Yoga Alliance's advanced-teacher designation.

Where a 200 hour training necessarily covers the basics of every subject area, a 300 hour program goes deep into one or two: advanced asana and subtle-body anatomy, therapeutic applications, refined sequencing and adjustment, and a more rigorous study of philosophy and the teaching relationship. Many schools build their 300 hour curriculum around a specific lens — therapeutic yoga, advanced pranayama, or Ayurvedic integration, for instance — so it's worth choosing a program whose focus matches the direction you want your teaching to take.

You do not need to complete your 300 hours at the same school as your original 200 — Yoga Alliance accepts combinations from different Registered Yoga Schools, as long as each program is itself RYS registered.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an RYT 200 before starting a 300 hour training?

Yes. A 300 hour program is designed as advanced study for teachers who already hold a 200-hour Yoga Alliance registered certification — it isn't a beginner-friendly route into teaching.

Does 200 + 300 hours equal an RYT 500?

Yes — completing a Yoga Alliance registered 200 hour program plus a registered 300 hour program (from the same or different schools) qualifies you to register as an RYT 500, the same designation earned by a direct 500 hour program.

What should I look for when choosing a 300 hour program?

A clear specialisation (therapeutic yoga, advanced philosophy, adjustments, etc.), a lead trainer with substantial teaching experience, and confirmation the school is a current Yoga Alliance RYS so your hours will count toward RYT 500.
