Refresher Yoga Teacher Training
A refresher yoga teacher training is aimed at already-certified teachers, not beginners — it's built for anyone returning to teaching after a break, feeling stuck in old sequencing habits, or simply wanting a structured week to update their skills against current best practice in alignment, cueing and class design.
Because Yoga Alliance requires 45 hours of continuing education every three years to maintain an active RYT registration, a refresher course is also a practical way to bank continuing-education credit while getting real value out of the time — provided the school offering it is a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP).
Expect a shorter, more intensive format than an original certification: less time spent on first-principles theory, more time spent on hands-on practice teaching, feedback, and troubleshooting the specific things that trip teachers up in real classes — pacing, voice, adjustments and reading a room.
What you'll learn
- Updated alignment and adjustment techniques
- Rebuilding confidence with live practice teaching and feedback
- Modern sequencing and thematic class design
- Working with mixed-level classes and common injuries
- Voice, pacing and holding space as a teacher
- Continuing education credit hours (confirm YACEP status with the school)
Who this is for
For certified teachers (RYT 200 or above) returning to teaching after time away, or wanting a focused reset on their skills — not a substitute for an original 200 hour certification if you've never completed one.
Format & duration
Usually a short, intensive format — a long weekend to one week — often hosted at a retreat centre. Ask whether the hours count as Yoga Alliance continuing education (YACEP) if maintaining your registration is part of your goal.

Frequently asked questions
Who should take a refresher yoga teacher training?
Certified teachers who are returning to teaching after a break, want to update outdated habits, or need continuing-education hours to maintain their Yoga Alliance registration.
Does a refresher course count toward Yoga Alliance continuing education?
Only if the school is a registered Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP) — confirm this directly with the school before booking if you need the hours to count.
Can beginners take a refresher training instead of a full 200 hour course?
No — refresher courses assume an existing teaching certification and teaching experience. Beginners should start with a 200 hour yoga teacher training.
